Tube-Shunt Surgery and The Tupperware Fundraiser Success

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our Tupperware fundraiser, we raised $235.60 towards our adoption of this cutie pictured above. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We really really appreciate your support.

In other news, Reese is scheduled for another surgery on November 7. The new oral medicine for her glaucoma that we were trying didn't bring her pressure down any. Her pressure was 44 at the visit on Wednesday. We're fortunate that the elevated pressure isn't causing her pain, she doesn't complain about it at all, but it being so high is damaging to the little vision she has in that eye. So surgery it is. They'll be inserting a Seton tube-shunt. She'll be restricted to limited physical activity for about 2 weeks, which sadly means she will have to miss the River Valley Feis on November 10. But she should be able to compete at Oireachtas. As with any medical condition, some times things have to be done differently than hoped for.

They'll insert the tube-shunt and her eye will be patched for a while (not sure exactly how long). But this should bring her pressure down to the normal area, and hopefully it will be the last surgery she has to have for her glaucoma for a while, years hopefully. We're also hoping that, given how high her pressure is, that it doesn't cause her too much pain when the pressure drops. The doctor told us that the sudden, vast drop can sometimes cause inflammation in the eye which can cause pain. We're hoping this isn't the case. We're really hoping that this procedure can be as painless as possible, especially after her last bad experience with eye surgery.

First Home Study Visit and A Cool Fundraiser

One of the first pictures we saw of Ana-Cherie

We had our first home study visit on Sunday. New social worker, so it was a little nerve-wracking at first, but she turned out to be very nice, a very sweet person. We cleaned up the house, but with 5 people and a number of cats, there's only so much that can be done and kept done. But it was a nice visit, and it's just finishing out visits and getting everything finished now.

On another note, on the day of our first home study visit, it was also four months until we have to have our dossier in China. We have to have it in China by Feb 21, 2013. When you realize it's that close, it's a little overwhelming. But we will get it all done, we will get all the funds together. I believe things are meant to be, and therefore they will work out. We just have to put in our own efforts, as well. Our Tupperware fundraiser is running through Oct 26 (you can shop here: http://order.tupperware.com/pls/htprod_www/!twx$eparty_ctl.p_guest_welcome?pv_eparty=267af90a1b264a4634eb48fdd0a20088). We get 40% of the proceeds from that.

Also, Adeye at No Greater Joy Mom is hosting a giveaway (you can get there by clicking on that link). She is giving away THREE $100 gift cards (Walmart, Target, and a Visa gift card). In order to enter, you just have to contribute to one of the 51 families who posted fundraisers on her blog, and comment on the above post that you contributed to the fundraiser. We are #30, and it is our ongoing Puzzle Piece fundraiser that I have mentioned a few times. It's a really great opportunity to help adopting families, and you get entered for a gift card too. And I know we could all use an extra $100, what with Christmas around the corner.

We REALLY appreciate your support! Thank you SOOOO much!

Reese has another eye doctor appointment tomorrow, to see if the new oral medication (plus the acupuncture we've been getting her) has brought her pressure down from the 40 it was about 2 weeks ago. We really hope it has.

Tupperware Fundraiser

Ana-Cherie in May 2011- she's the one in the light blue jacket on the front row
Our first homestudy visit is planned for Oct 28. Progress!

We are also starting another fundraiser to help bring home Ana-Cherie. We're having a Tupperware fundraiser! Completely online, so everything will be shipped straight to the person who ordered it. The fundraiser will run from Oct 12-Oct 26. 40% of proceeds go to help bring Ana-Cherie home, to help us cover agency costs and the other fees that come with an adoption. This is a great fundraiser, with a quality product, and as soon as I have a link for people to order from, I will post it here. I do however have a Facebook event for this you can check out. Thanks in advance for your support!

EDIT: The fundraiser is open NOW. It still runs through the 26th. China-Bound for Ana-Cherie

Also, tomorrow is Reese's 8th birthday. Yes, that sweet girl we adopted 5 years ago will be 8. I plan to add pictures of her tomorrow in honor of her birthday. :)

Puzzle Fundraiser

I've seen other people do this fundraiser, and it seems like a really cool idea. Adoption is expensive, and given that this was something of a surprise adoption, and we're on a tighter time frame than our last adoption, we're hitting the fundraising quickly.

I'm super excited to get to put this puzzle together, and get to see it come together with your help.

I picked out a puzzle with this image, because we love cats in this house (and have several).

How It Works
This puzzle has 550 pieces. I want every piece to have someone's name on it, so we need sponsors for the pieces. It's $5 to sponsor a piece of the puzzle for Ana-Cherie. When it's finished and assembled, I plan on getting a 2-sided glass frame for it, so all the names can be seen and Ana-Cherie can see how many people wanted to help her come home.

To make a donation and sponsor a piece:
1. Click on the Chip-In Button on the right hand side of the blog, OR
2. You can send your donation directly via PayPal to mldavidson2009(at)gmail.com, OR
3. You can send a check. You can leave a comment with your email address, and I will email you the address to send it to.

We really appreciate your support and caring for Ana-Cherie!
